The Ocean regulates Earth’s climate and sustains economies, livelihoods and life itself, so why is it mostly invisible in the decisions that shape our future?

The Ocean Literacy Project exists to change that.

We translate Ocean science into practical knowledge, better decisions, and meaningful action for people, organisations and communities. Our work connects the Ocean to everyday life, professional practice, and strategic decision-making, helping communities and business understand their role within the systems that sustain us.

Our programmes span three levels:

• Foundations: certified courses that build a clear, accessible understanding of how the Ocean shapes climate, ecosystems and society
• Professional & sector programmes: tailored training for education, tourism, policy
• Executive & decision-maker education: briefings and workshops that connect ocean systems to risk, strategy and long-term decision-making

We work with educators, businesses, community organisations and leaders who recognise that understanding the Ocean is no longer optional - it is essential.

Our approach combines rigorous science, systems thinking and applied learning, ensuring that knowledge leads to confidence, and confidence leads to action.
