The Pointer is a subscription-based digital-only media platform that provides locally-focussed news to communities.

It does not feature advertising and relies on the support of subscribers (who pay a monthly fee of $10) to deliver meaningful journalism that includes top quality storytelling, investigations, features and data-driven content. Evidence-based journalism is our focus.

The Pointer believes that serious accountability journalism is fundamental to democracy at the local level. It aims to protect taxpayers and other residents in their communities and to help them make key day-to-day decisions in their lives. The Pointer also aims to accurately reflect the communities it serves by telling stories that represent those places.

The Pointer’s Journalistic Standards are adapted from those established by the Canadian Association of Journalists.
