At The Prison Opticians Trust, we believe in the transformative power of education and skills training to break the cycle of reoffending. Our mission is to equip incarcerated individuals with the necessary optical skills and expertise to secure meaningful employment upon release, fostering their successful reintegration into society.
Founded by Tanjit Dosanjh OBE and Dr. Amandeep Sappal, inspired by their experiences studying Optometry together at City University, London, we are dedicated to providing inmates with a pathway to professional success within the optical industry.

Through our innovative programs, we offer comprehensive training in optical skills, including lens crafting, frame assembly, and customer service, preparing our participants for rewarding careers in optometry, lens manufacturing, and related fields.

With a focus on rehabilitation and empowerment, we have already helped over 90 prisoners secure employment within the optics industry, demonstrating the tangible impact of our initiatives on individuals and communities alike.
