The Protein Express is a Netherlands-based biotechnology startup specializing in the cost-efficient production of functional proteins. Founded in 2026 as the successor to the award-winning contract research and technology development company BioscienZ, it builds on their innovations to make large-scale functional protein production more accessible.

With a strong focus on sustainability and innovation, The Protein Express has developed a flexible fungal fermentation platform that can be fine-tuned to produce a wide range of functional proteins at an affordable cost. Through the platform, the company enables partners to develop protein-based solutions that were previously not economically viable.

The platform is currently used to produce tailored enzyme solutions for agro-industrial side stream valorisation, as well as functional proteins for applications in food, feed, and industry.
