The R&A
Steve Otto has a diverse work experience spanning various industries and roles. Steve began their career as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Manchester University in 1991 before transitioning to a role as a Staff Scientist at NASA Langley Research Center. After their time at NASA, Steve joined the University of Birmingham as a Senior Lecturer, where they stayed for a decade from 1994 to 2004. In 2004, Steve became the Executive Director and Chief Technology Officer at The R&A, where they currently hold a position.
Steve Otto attended the University of Exeter from 1985 to 1988, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. Steve then pursued further education at the same institution and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mathematics from 1988 to 1990.

Based in St Andrews, The R&A governs the sport worldwide, outside of the United States and Mexico, and is organiser of The Open and AIG Women’s Open. The R&A acts on behalf of over 61 million golfers engaged in the sport in 145 countries and with the consent of 164 organisations from amateur and professional golf.
