Our roots are powerful. They define us, nurture us, keep us grounded. They help us to grow and flourish – and sometimes they hold us back.

Depending on your background, your life chances and perspective on the country, your values, your aspirations and often your politics vastly differ. People from all walks of life are not exposed sufficiently to those outside their immediate networks. Separate schools, separate lives and separate futures. The opportunities are limited for people to mix with those who may offer a different perspective, to challenge inherited truths, to increase empathy and understanding.

A NEW NARRATIVE:

The Roots Futures Programme -
This personal and community development programme works with young people and teachers from state and private schools to build Relationships of Resistance that bridge the class, cultural, racial and religious divides that exist between state and private schools. 

The programme is co-led with young people and teachers facilitating life-changing encounters between young people and teachers from state and private schools. The programme is a blend of online workshops, school visits and solo challenges.

100% of Teachers report a strong growth in student leadership potential alongside ‘very positive’ impacts on mental health, resilience, adaptability, confidence and communication plus new schools partnership projects.

100% of Students report feeling better prepared for future career/work alongside increased levels of self-esteem and belonging.

This initiative is spearheaded by Dr Ruth Ibegbuna: Ashoka Fellow, Clore Social Fellow and founding CEO of RECLAIM.
