Instructor at The Second City

Dee Ryan has a diverse work experience spanning several industries. Dee has worked as an instructor at The Second City since 2022. Prior to that, they were a producer, host, and writer for Louder Than a Mom, a theme-based storytelling show, starting in 2014. Dee also served as an adjunct professor at Northwestern University's Department of Radio, Television, and Film, where they created and implemented curriculum and taught improvisational skills from 2013 onwards. Dee has also worked as a freelance screenwriter, script consultant, and television writer since 1998 and 2012, respectively.

In addition to their work in the entertainment industry, Dee has also served as a consultant and keynote creative director for ASUG - Americas' SAP Users' Group since 2016. Dee was involved in the Nebraska Shakespeare Company as a playwright in their "Unshaken Festival" in 2021. Dee contributed as a contributing editor for The Chicago Muse, an online magazine for women in 2014, where they interviewed, wrote articles, edited submissions, and helped shape the publication by finding new voices.

During their earlier years, Dee worked at The Second City as a teacher at large, teaching improvisation and writing from 2002 until 2010. Dee also wrote and performed their play "DeeConstruction" at various theaters across the United States, including IO, UCB, Pittsburgh Public Theater, Merrimack Repertory Theater, and Center Stage.

Dee Ryan's education history includes several diverse educational experiences. In 1982, they enrolled in the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, where they pursued a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) degree in Music Theater. Dee completed their degree in 1986. Following their undergraduate studies, they attended the ImprovOlympia from 1990 to 1992, focusing on improvisation and group work. In the same period, they also attended The Second City Conservatory, concentrating on sketch, improvisation, and group work. Additionally, in 1999, they participated in the Robert McGee Story Seminar, specializing in playwriting and screenwriting. Lastly, from 2009 to 2011, they pursued a Certificate in Creative Writing from UCLA Extension.
