The SEED Foundation is a national nonprofit that partners with urban communities to provide innovative educational opportunities that prepare underserved students for success in college and beyond. We establish college-prep, public boarding schools and offer SEED graduates postsecondary support through the SEED College Transition & Success Program. 

In 1998, the Foundation opened The SEED School of Washington, D.C. – the nation’s first urban public boarding school. It serves 340 students in grades 6 - 12. To date, 93 percent of all SEED graduates have enrolled in college.

Building on that success, The SEED School of Maryland opened in Baltimore in 2008. Approximately 400 students live and learn on the 52-acre SEED Maryland campus; the school graduated its first class of seniors in 2015, and 100% of graduates were accepted to four-year colleges. 

In August 2014, The SEED School of Miami opened its doors to its first class of 60 sixth-graders, and will add a grade each year until it has 400 students enrolled in grades six through twelve.

SEED has also been recognized in the national media for our model and our results. Our success has been celebrated by 60 Minutes, The Oprah Winfrey Show, the documentary film Waiting for "Superman,"​ the Today Show, the New York Times, Time Magazine, Fox News, and CNN, among others. The Directors Group at The SEED Foundation comprises key leaders responsible for overseeing various strategic and operational facets of the organization. This team includes the Director of College Transition & Success, who manages postsecondary support programs; the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Special Projects, who drives organizational development and innovation; the Director of Social Emotional Learning, who ensures the integration of SEL into the educational model; the Director of Strategic Growth and Public Affairs, who steers external partnerships and expansion; and the Director of Finance, who oversees financial planning and management. Together, they coordinate efforts to enhance educational outcomes and support for underserved students across SEED's schools.

The Expansion and Support Team at The SEED Foundation is responsible for overseeing the growth and development of new SEED schools, ensuring they adhere to the organization's successful educational model. This team coordinates logistical, operational, and pedagogical support necessary to establish new schools, while also providing continuous assistance to existing SEED institutions to maintain high standards of academic excellence and student success.

Expansion and Support

The Development Team at The SEED Foundation is responsible for securing funding and resources to support the foundation's mission. They engage in strategic planning, relationship building, and communication efforts to attract donations and grants. Team members collaborate to craft compelling narratives, manage donor relations, and coordinate fundraising events to ensure the sustainability and growth of SEED's educational programs.

Development Team

The Leadership Team at The SEED Foundation is responsible for guiding the organization’s strategic vision and ensuring the successful execution of its mission. The CEO spearheads overall organizational leadership and strategy; the Chief Development Officer (CDO) focuses on securing funding and fostering partnerships to support SEED’s programs; the Chief Growth Officer drives expansion efforts and scales the SEED model to new locations; and the Chief Schools Officer oversees the educational programs and ensures academic excellence at all SEED schools. Collectively, they work to advance the foundation’s goal of providing innovative educational opportunities for underserved students.
