Drones have the potential to deliver life-saving equipment and critical intelligence to emergency services.

But in the UK, that potential isn't yet fully realised.

Why?
- Current regulation doesn't yet allow routine beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) for emergency response. 
- The landscape is complex, involving many organisations with different requirements. 
- There's public concern about drone use. 
- More trials are needed to demonstrate flight safety and usability.

This is where we come in. 

The Thunderbird Project is an independent charity, and our mission is to save lives by enabling emergency services to operate response drones beyond the visual line of sight (BVLOS).

We have been commissioned by the Civil Aviation Authority and the Department for Transport to advise on new BVLOS regulations. We are collaborating with university studies on public acceptance of drones.

We are now raising funds for essential trials that will demonstrate flight safety and operational usability, which is critical for regulatory approval and wider emergency service adoption.

As an independent charity, we are uniquely positioned to bring together emergency services, government organisations and regulatory bodies to align on requirements. We are supported by consulting partners Ajuno and Frazer-Nash providing deep expertise in drone technology and regulatory compliance.
