Michael Spies

Michael Spies is a seasoned journalist with extensive experience in investigative reporting and writing. Currently serving as a Senior Staff Writer at The Trace since February 2021, Michael previously held the position of Reporter at ProPublica from July 2019 to February 2021 and worked as an Investigative Reporter at The Trace from June 2015 to June 2019. Prior to this, Michael served as a Senior Reporter at Vocativ and was part of the Editorial Staff at The New Yorker from June 2010 to August 2013. Michael holds a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Non-Fiction from Columbia University (2007-2009) and a Bachelor's degree in English from the University of Vermont (2002-2006).
