The YOUTHOOD Project is a youth development organisation working to redefine how society understands, supports and delivers youth development.

We believe young people’s development is shaped across every part of society: schools, families, communities, services, employers, public policy, youth organisations, local systems and national institutions. Yet too often, these systems work in fragments, with no shared language for what youth development means or what young people should be able to expect.

YOUTHOOD exists to close that gap.

Our work is shaped by the Case for Youth Development, which sets out why the UK needs a clearer, more coherent and more rights-informed way of understanding adolescence, opportunity, transition and developmental support. We focus on three connected challenges: the language gap, the experience gap and the stewardship gap.

We connect national system-building with local and regional action, developing national campaigns, frameworks, learning resources and policy positions, while supporting regional delivery, youth engagement and professional collaboration. This allows our work to move between national insight and real community experience.

Our soon-to-launch flagship long-term framework is the National Architecture for Youth Development, known as NAYD. NAYD is being developed to provide a shared developmental foundation for youth development across sectors. It brings together lived adolescent experience, professional knowledge, research, rights-based principles and system-level thinking to support more coherent policy, practice and delivery.

YOUTHOOD works across policy, campaigns, youth voice, regional engagement, professional learning and public conversation. We exist to strengthen the shared language, evidence, expectations and partnerships that help youth-facing services work better together.

We are youth-led, professionally informed and committed to building a stronger national conversation about youth development.
