Rene Sanchez

Rene Sanchez, a New Orleans native, became the Editor of The Advocate, Times Picayune and Nola.com in April 2022. He returned home to Louisiana from Minneapolis, where for eight years he had been Editor of The Star Tribune and previously served also as Managing Editor. During his tenure, he supervised an investigative report on child deaths in poorly regulated day cares that won a Pulitzer Prize in 2013. The Star Tribune also won the Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News in 2021 for coverage of the murder of George Floyd and it has been named a Pulitzer finalist twice in the past five years for other local reporting. Sanchez also spent 17 years as a reporter for the Washington Post. In his last six years there, he was based in Los Angles, covering California and the West. He grew up in Gentilly and graduated from Holy Cross High School and Loyola University New Orleans.
