Tilburg, Eindhoven and Utrecht are major student cities. In 1927, the Roman Catholic Trade School was founded in Tilburg, officially Tilburg University since 2010. Tilburg University has almost 20,000 students. Eindhoven has been home to Eindhoven University of Technology since 1956, which now has almost 12,000 students. In Utrecht, Utrecht University was founded as early as 1636, which now has more than 39,000 students, making it the second largest university in the Netherlands. But these three cities also have universities of applied sciences, making Tilburg, Eindhoven and Utrecht home to over 30,000, 35,000 and 68,000 students respectively.

With a total of less than a few hundred students, the theological programmes at Fontys Hogescholen and Tilburg University are a grain of sand on the beach of education. Yet theologians-to-be should not undervalue themselves. Society needs depth, spirituality and meaning, and as theologians, we are the right people to meet that need.

Study Association Ad Interim, affiliated to both educational institutions, has an important part to play in this. It not only forms the link between two intimately connected study programmes and the various teaching locations, but also with the other students in Tilburg, Eindhoven and Utrecht. Our unofficial motto for years has been 'conviviality, deepening and connection', and rightly so.
