Markus Bäckström has over 25 years of experience in the technology industry. Markus began their career in 1995 as a Business Development Manager for Elisa Communications. In 2000, they joined XLENT as a Senior Consultant and was part of the founding team at the company's Helsinki office. Markus was responsible for leading projects and engagements for international telecom, media and high-tech companies in Europe. In 2004, they became the Director of TV & Media Business at RedLynx and was responsible for setting up a new business unit and the operations required to broadcast live interactive television. In 2007, they co-founded Ubipart and raised a seed funding round from private and institutional investors. Markus also served as the CEO and Board Member. In 2017, they became a Board Member at Thirdpresence.com. In 2019, they joined Flowplayer as the Chief Data Officer and SVP, Video Advertising. Markus was an executive team member with end-to-end business responsibility for the advertising business area. In 2020, they became the Chief Operating Officer at Thirdpresence. Markus currently serves as the Chief Operating Officer at NinaData.
Markus Bäckström began their educational journey in 1989 when they attended the Finnish Army Reserve Officer School, earning the degree of Lieutenant in Coastal Artillery. Markus then moved on to the Teknillinen korkeakoulu-Tekniska högskolan from 1990 to 1995, where they obtained an M.Sc. in Computer Science, Telecommunications, and Industrial Economics. In 1999 and 2000, they completed the Elisa Communications Executive Training Programme at the Hanken School of Economics, where they studied Marketing, Finance, and Strategy.
