Principal Robotics Engineer at Thread

Aaron Roller has a diverse work experience in various roles and industries. Aaron is currently working as a Principal Robotics Engineer at Thread since January 2022. Previously, from September 2019 to January 2022, they were the Product Development Lead at AutoModality, where they focused on preparing an autonomous flying robot for commercial launch. At AutoModality, Aaron grew the team and product, utilizing perceptive navigation to control commercial drones in GPS denied environments.

Prior to that, Aaron worked at School Tag from June 2017 to June 2020 as a Product Creator. Aaron developed and deployed a system that gamifies the school commute for students, rewarding those who walk, bike, or take the bus. This system was rolled out to schools in partnership with Safe Routes to School of Marin.

From May 2019 to October 2019, Aaron was an Engineering Lead at Postmates Inc. Before that, at Cruise Automation from September 2018 to February 2019, they served as an Autonomous Vehicle Trainer II. In this role, Aaron monitored self-driving cars in San Francisco, providing feedback to improve their behavior and interaction with people.

Aaron also has experience as a Software Engineering Lead at GearLaunch, where they helped build and maintain an e-commerce platform from September 2016 to August 2018. Aaron assisted in hiring and training engineers and collaborated with a nearshore team.

Aaron briefly worked as a Software Engineering Manager at Opower from March 2016 to August 2016. Aaron also has entrepreneurial experience as a Product Creator and Co-Founder of TrailNetwork Inc. from April 2013 to May 2015, and as the Founder and Software Consultant at AAWhere from January 2010 to April 2013.

Additionally, Aaron has previous experience as the General Manager of Garmin Connect at Garmin International from October 2005 to February 2010.

Aaron Roller attended California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo from 1995 to 1998, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science.
