Joshua R. has a diverse work experience starting in 2000 at South Dakota State University where they served as a Distance Education Specialist and later as Distance Education Coordinator. In 2004, they joined the South Dakota Board of Regents as the Director of the Electronic University Consortium. In 2007, they became the Associate Chief Information Officer and Director of SITS at the North Dakota University System, overseeing the merger of System Information Technology Services. At the University of North Dakota, they held several roles from 2007 to 2016, including Associate Vice President for Outreach Services, Dean of Outreach Programs, Chief Information Officer, and Vice Provost and Chief Strategy Officer. In 2016, Joshua R. was appointed Chief Operating Officer at Edgedata, where they brought their expertise in big data, high-performance computing, cyber operations, cyber security, and unmanned aerial systems. Most recently, in 2018, they founded Thread and serves as the Founder and CEO.
Joshua R. has a diverse education history. Joshua began their academic journey in 1993 at South Dakota Mines, where they pursued computer software engineering. However, they did not complete a degree at this institution. In 1994, they transferred to South Dakota State University and obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Agricultural Teacher Education, which they completed in 1997. After a few years, from 1998 to 2000, Joshua pursued a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Career and Technical Education at South Dakota State University. Finally, they went on to pursue an Ed.D. in Higher Education/Higher Education Administration at the University of South Dakota from 2002 to 2007.
