Michael Johnston

Michael Johnston has worked in a variety of roles in the sports industry. From 2005 to 2010, they were a Lawyer at Coulter Roache. From 2010 to 2018, they were employed by the Australian Sports Commission, where they held the roles of Senior Sports Analyst, Lead- Governance & Business Development, and Deputy General Manager- Sports Governance & Business Capability. In 2018, they joined Hockey Australia as Chief Strategy Officer & General Counsel, and Acting Chief Executive Officer, as well as General Manager- Growth, Legal & Strategy. In this role, they drove the national strategic agenda to grow the sport of Hockey in Australia, led the engagement of State and Territory Associations and other key stakeholders, acted as general counsel, developed and managed the successful delivery of transformational governance reform, and built and oversaw the integrity operations within Hockey. In 2020, they joined TIDYHQ as a Non Executive Director.

Michael Johnston completed a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) in Economics and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) in Commercial Law from Deakin University between 2000 and 2004. Michael then went on to obtain a Graduate Certificate in Innovation and Entrepreneurship from the University of Adelaide between 2014 and 2016.
