Brian Chan

Brian Chan is an accomplished data scientist and machine learning engineer with extensive experience in natural language processing and classification systems. Currently serving as a Machine Learning Engineer at TikTok since July 2025, Brian previously worked at Stackline from October 2023 to February 2025, where responsibilities included enhancing classification pipelines and product matching systems using Scala Spark and OpenAI CLIP, as well as fine-tuning the Mistral Nemo Model with LoRA. Prior to that, Brian held the position of Data Scientist II and conducted research as a Physics Graduate Student Researcher at the University of California, Los Angeles between September 2016 and September 2023, focusing on the search for CVE signals in Quark Gluon Plasma. Additionally, Brian served as a Lead Teaching Assistant at UCLA from September 2016 to April 2020. Educational qualifications include a Data Science Fellowship from The Data Incubator in 2023, a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Berkeley in 2016, and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2023.
