George Spanos

George Spanos has over 30 years of work experience in the materials science and engineering field. George started their career in 1989 as a scientist at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, where they conducted research, obtained funding, and published investigations on microstructural evolution and processing-microstructure-property correlations in various materials. In 1994, they were promoted to Section Head and took on additional responsibilities such as supervising employees and managing a budget. In 2010, they transitioned to the Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS) as the Technical Director, where they built capability in emerging technical areas and identified new business opportunities. George later became the Director of New Initiatives, Science, and Engineering at TMS, leading the implementation of TMS's science and engineering strategy and developing high-impact initiatives and capabilities across TMS domains. Throughout their career, George Spanos has demonstrated expertise in research, leadership, and strategic planning in the field of materials science and engineering.

George Spanos has a strong educational background in Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science. George obtained their Bachelor of Science degree from Carnegie Mellon University in 1982. Later, they pursued a Master of Engineering degree from the same institution, completing it in 1985. George's academic journey continued at Carnegie Mellon University, where they obtained a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science.
