Rob Smets is a scientist with extensive experience in the fields of optical, IP, and quantum networking. They worked as a Member of Technical Staff at Lucent Technologies - Bell Labs Europe from 1999 to 2007, then served as an Architect and Consultant in Technical Pre-Sales at Alcatel Lucent from 2007 to 2008. Following that, they held the position of Senior Scientist at TNO from 2014 to 2023, and currently works as a Network Architect at SURF. Rob earned both a Ph.D. in Electro-Optical Communication and an M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, specializing in Optics and Electromagnetism, from Eindhoven University of Technology.
