Thomas R. Evans is the Founder and Executive Chairman of Torticity. Tom’s breadth of business experience, particularly as a senior executive in the internet and media industries, and service on the Board of Directors of public companies, provides insight into operational strategy and execution at Torticity.
From 2004 through 2013, Mr. Evans was the President and Chief Executive Officer of Bankrate, Inc., an internet publisher of consumer financial content and rate information. In 2009, Mr. Evans took the company through a $580 million take-private transaction with Apax Partners, a London-based private equity firm. Less than two years later, Evans led the company through a $1.5 billion Initial Public Offering. During his tenure at Bankrate, the company’s revenues grew by over 14X and pre-tax profit grew by over 20X. Mr. Evans also served on the company’s Board of Directors before retiring as CEO and from the board at the end of 2013. From 1999 to 2003, Mr. Evans served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Official Payments Corp., an internet company specializing in processing consumer credit card payments for government taxes, fees and fines online. During his tenure there, Mr. Evans led the company through its 1999 IPO and a sale of the company to Tier Technologies in 2003.
From March 1998 to June 1999, Mr. Evans was President and Chief Executive Officer of GeoCities Inc., a community of personal Websites on the Internet. In 1998, Mr. Evans led the company through its IPO and sold the company in 1999 to Yahoo! Inc. for $4.6 billion.
Since retiring at the end of 2013, Tom has now shifted his time to providing valuable insights and perspective in his capacity as Board Member at several notable companies. Tom currently serves as Board Member at The Knot Worldwide, a role he has held since 2018, advising a global family of brands spanning 15 countries around the world. Additionally, since 2015, he has served as Board Member at SmartAsset, a company committed to helping people make smart financial decisions. Since 2012, Tom has served as a Member of the Board of Directors at Shutterstock, a company aimed at helping power creativity all on one platform. Tom also currently serves as a director of ANGI Homeservices Inc. and serves as a member of its Audit Committee and Chairman of its Compensation Committee.
Tom holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Arizona State University. Tom and his family live in Bronxville, New York.
