Director of Hardware at Trace

Alex Krause has worked in a variety of roles since 2005. In 2005, they were a Teacher's Assistant at Brighton High School and a Research Assistant at the Marine Biological Laboratory. In 2006, they were a Research Scientist at the Boston University Optical Characterization and Nanophotonics Laboratory. In 2008, they were a Contracted Software Developer for Tenesix Inc. From 2009 to 2015, they were a Graduate Student at Caltech and a Scientific Consultant at TU Delft. From 2015 to 2018, they worked at Exponent as a Scientist, Senior Scientist, and Managing Scientist. From 2018 to 2021, they worked at Apple as an Engineering Manager and Design Lead for Depth Hardware. From 2021 to 2022, they were the Director of TBM Systems at The Boring Company. Currently, they are the Director of Hardware at Trace.

Alex Krause received their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Physics from Boston University in 2009. Alex then went on to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Engineering Physics/Applied Physics from Caltech, which they completed in 2014. In addition, they have obtained two edX Verified Certificates, one for Autonomous Navigation for Flying Robots and one for Scalable Machine Learning.
