Richard Simpson has a diverse work experience spanning over several industries. Richard started their career as a Sales Representative at Executone in 1992 and then moved to Colorado Audio Visual as an Audio-Visual Technician in 1993. In 1994, they joined Fujitsu Business Communications Systems as a National Sales Engineer, a role they held until 1999. From 1999 to 2004, Richard worked as a Sales Engineer and Channel Support at Brightware/Firepond. Richard then joined Comprehensive Technical Group in 2005 as a Sales Representative. In 2006, Richard took on the role of General Manager at A Better Crawlspace and also started working as a Computer and Network Specialist at Private Computer Consulting. At Private Computer Consulting, they managed, troubleshooted, repaired, and upgraded computer and networking infrastructure for customers, provided disaster data recovery services, and trained clients on new applications. In 2010, Richard transitioned to Macquarium as a Sales Engineer until 2014. Richard then moved to Trivoca in 2015, where they served as the Manager of Operations until 2018. Their most recent position is at Trainz.com, where they work as an Information Technology Specialist since February 2018.

From 1987 to 1992, Richard Simpson attended the Georgia Institute of Technology, where they pursued a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree. During this time, they also studied Philosophy as a secondary field of study.
