Corey Benson has extensive experience in the transportation and utilities sectors, beginning a career as a Class 1 Truck Driver at J. Robinson Enterprises from June 1997 to January 2000, focusing on local and long-haul trucking, specifically asphalt and gravel hauling. From August 2009 to January 2015, Corey worked at TransAlta Utilities Corp. as Maintenance Lead on the Turbine Team, overseeing turbine outages and executing shutdowns, in addition to serving as a Millwright for turbine and generator maintenance. Corey continued at TransAlta from January 2015 to December 2019 in various maintenance lead roles. Educational qualifications include a Technical Trade in Millwright from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, graduating with honors, along with third and fourth class Power Engineering certifications from the Alberta Boiler Safety Association and further education at NAIT. Corey's foundational education was completed at Mayerthorpe High School.
