Massimo Barbagallo has a diverse work experience in various scientific research roles. Massimo is currently the Head of R&D unit at TRANSMUTEX since September 2022. Previously, from September 2021 to August 2022, they worked as a Senior experimental engineer at the same company.

Before joining TRANSMUTEX, Massimo worked at CERN from August 2018 to July 2021. Massimo held the position of Nuclear Physicist, Senior Fellow, where they focused on the development and operation of detectors for various particles and radiation. Massimo also led the European Project SANDA and conducted Monte-Carlo simulations for particle fluxes and doses calculations. Prior to this, from January 2017 to July 2018, Massimo worked as a Post-Doctoral Physicist, Project Associate at CERN, where they managed activities related to highly radioactive materials and coordinated measurement and data analysis of particle fluxes.

From January 2014 to December 2016, Massimo worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher, Cooperation Associate at INFN. During this time, they specialized in the design and development of solid-state neutron detectors for beam monitoring and imaging. Massimo also led three CERN frontier experiments in the field of Nuclear Technologies and Nuclear Astrophysics.

Massimo Barbagallo began their education in 2006 at Università di Catania, where they pursued a Master's degree in Physics. Massimo completed this program in 2009. Following this, they enrolled at Università degli Studi di Bari in 2010 and pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Nuclear Physics. After two years of study, they completed their PhD program in 2012.
