Patrick Mercier has worked in various roles in the engineering field since 2006. In 2008, they were a Graduate Technical Intern at Intel Corporation. From 2006 to 2012, they were a Research Assistant at MIT, where they investigated, developed, and tested integrated circuits for applications requiring extreme miniaturization and/or energy efficiency. In 2012, they became the Owner of Mercier Engineering, where they are currently a member of the board of directors and scientific advisory boards for several companies in the technology and medical devices spaces. In 2012, they also became the Site Director of the Power Management Integration Center and an Associate Professor at the University of California, San Diego - Jacobs School of Engineering. At UC San Diego, they conducted research in energy-efficient microsystems for mobile, biomedical, wearable, and IoT applications, and authored three co-authored books and 150+ peer-reviewed publications in near-zero-power mixed-signal circuits, power electronics, energy-efficient RF systems, wearable and implantable biosensors, neurotechnology, and energy harvesting. In 2016, they became the Co-Founder of TRAQ. In 2021, they became an Engineering Advisor at Braingrade.

Patrick Mercier received their B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alberta in 2006. Patrick then continued their studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where they earned an S.M. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in 2008 and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in 2012.
