Makoto Yui

Makoto Yui has extensive work experience in the field of software engineering and machine learning. Makoto is currently working at Treasure Data as a Senior Principal Software Engineer, leading the ML team and developing the Treasure Automl product. Prior to this, they worked as a Principal Engineer at Treasure Data and was responsible for leading the productization of AutoML and designing a container platform for Automl service.

Before joining Treasure Data, Makoto Yui was a member of The Apache Software Foundation, where they played a crucial role in the development of Apache Hivemall. Makoto also worked as a Principal Engineer at Arm, a research engineer at Treasure Data, a senior researcher at AIST, and a visiting researcher at the University of Edinburgh, CWI, and Waseda University. Early in their career, they held positions as a JSPS Research Fellow at the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science and as a system engineer at NEC Infomatic Systems, Ltd.

Makoto Yui's expertise includes leading teams, designing and implementing machine learning services, developing container platforms, and working on distributed streaming data processing systems. Makoto has consulted numerous machine learning projects for various companies and startups. Additionally, they have contributed to the development of parallel database systems and reliable messaging systems for grid services.

Makoto Yui holds a Ph.D in Computer Science from the Nara Institute of Science and Technology, which was obtained from 2006 to 2009. Prior to that, they earned a Master's Degree in Computer Science from the same institute, spanning from 2005 to 2006. Makoto Yui also holds a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from the Shibaura Institute of Technology, Japan, earned from 1999 to 2003. In addition to their academic qualifications, Makoto Yui has obtained certifications in Hackerrank Problem Solving (Basic) from HackerRank and Unconscious Bias from LinkedIn in the year 2020.
