In January 2003, Mike Tye joined Premier Inn as Managing Director. During their tenure, they oversaw the acquisition of Premier Lodge and the integration of Travel Inn to create Premier (Travel) Inn. Mike also led the company to achieve record profits, increasing EBIT from £65 million to £140 million.

In January 2005, Mike Tye joined Whitbread PLC as Managing Director of David Lloyd Leisure. Plc Board persuaded in 2005 not to sell the business; but deliver a 2 year recovery plan. Mike executed a strategic initiatives program focused on improving member experience and operational efficiency. As a result of their efforts, the company delivered £925 million pounds in sales, 41% more than the 2005 Deutsche Bank valuation of £657 million.

Mike Tye studied management science at Loughborough University, where they earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree. Prior to that, they completed their A levels in economics, pure and applied mathematics, French, and Latin at Prior Park College/Davies's College.
