George Were

George Were is an experienced leader in the international development sector, currently serving as the Country Director at Trócaire. Having led the East Africa region for Saferworld, they bring over 30 years of expertise working across various NGOs in complex contexts such as Afghanistan, Sierra Leone, and Yemen. Their background includes significant roles at Oxfam and CAFOD, where they managed diverse teams and implemented donor-funded programs in areas like WASH, Food Security, and Education. George holds a BVM in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Nairobi, an MA in Humanitarian Affairs from Tufts University, and additional certifications in rural development management.
