Latin America Correspondent at Trouw

Edwin Koopman is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in journalism, academia, and community engagement. As the Founder and Executive Secretary of Antiquarian Bookshop Colette & Co since July 2021, Edwin has been instrumental in transforming a neighborhood-rescued bookshop in The Hague into a volunteer-driven foundation. Concurrently, Edwin serves as an Advisory Board Member for CEDLA at the University of Amsterdam, a Senior Editor and Reporter at VPRO's "Foreign Desk," a Columnist for Clingendael Spectator, and a Latin America Correspondent for Trouw, Dutch Public Radio, and EW, specializing in political crises and conflicts across Latin America. Additionally, writing includes "Venezuela - De Oliekoning" focusing on Hugo Chavez, complemented by previous work as a trainer at the Royal Tropical Institute. Edwin holds a Master's degree in Human Geography from Catholic University Nijmegen.

Trouw

Trouw is one of the three national quality newspapers in the Netherlands, and part of the Belgium publisher De Persgroep. In 2012 it received the award European Newspaper of the Year fot its concept of a 'daily weekly'​ and its design. It produces every day a newssection and a section 'De Verdieping'​ with background, analyses, reports en opinions. On saturday there are two extra magazines called Letter&Geest with essays and bookreviews and a magazine named Tijd with human interest-story's. It's orginally founded in 1943 as a resistance newspaper. Nowadays the newspaper takes special interests in politics, sustainability, education, healthcare and the role of religion and (new) religious groups in our rapidly changing society.
