Sjaak's career includes a significant tenure at NXP Semiconductors from January 2001 to April 2012 as a Senior Equipment Engineer, and earlier experience at Rembrandt Packaging from October 1995 to December 2000 as a Constructeur / Project Coordinator. Sjaak van Bergen earned a degree in Werktuigbouwkunde (Mechanical Engineering) from Fontys Venlo University of Applied Sciences from 1990 to 1995.
