John Bortins

John Bortins has a diverse work experience spanning over several decades. John started their career as a Senior Scientist at Control Data, where they contributed to improving magnetic memory plated wires and worked on magnetic bubble memory chip designs. John then moved on to roles at Seagate Technology, Imprimis, Peripheral Components, and Magnetic Peripherals, where they served as a Senior Advisory Scientist, focusing on improving the manufacturing process of magnetic thin film inductive disk recording heads. During their time at Seagate, they developed innovative solutions that significantly improved yield, throughput, and prediction accuracy, resulting in substantial cost savings for the company.

John later joined Quantum RHG and Appled Magnetics, where they held positions as a Project Engineer and Transducer Design Manager respectively. In these roles, they managed teams, oversaw failure analysis, and coordinated technical processes related to wafer fabrication and electrical testing.

Afterward, John worked as a Product Engineer at Quantum Corporation, where they resolved quality issues and executed new product introductions. John collaborated with international staff and played a key role in the release of a new magnetic recording head assembly.

In 1998, John joined Sun Microsystems, Inc. as a Senior Staff Hardware Engineer and Project Manager. John led failure analysis teams, enhanced manufacturing yields, and identified causes for poor yield, enabling appropriate corrective actions.

In 2006, John returned to Benamati & Associates, their previous employer, as a Computer System Consultant. John specialized in web development, site maintenance, and provided hardware and software services for small businesses.

In 2008, John joined Tutor.com as a Tutor II, providing online tutoring services for Statistics, Algebra 2, and Calculus.

Throughout their career, John has consistently demonstrated their technical expertise and ability to improve processes and yield, resulting in significant cost savings and enhanced productivity for the companies they have worked for.

John Bortins began their education at Michigan State University in 1968, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics. John completed their studies there in 1972.
