Ping Liu has a diverse work experience in the fields of energy research and technology. Ping is currently the Co-founder and CSO of Tyfast, a position they have held since September 2020. Prior to this, Ping Liu worked at UC San Diego as a Professor, starting in July 2020, and previously as an Associate Professor from January 2016 until July 2020.
Before joining UC San Diego, Ping Liu was a Program Director at the Advanced Research Projects Agency—Energy (ARPA-E) from July 2012 to December 2015. In this role, they initiated and managed transformational energy research programs such as the "Robust Affordable Next Generation EV-Storage" (RANGE) program, which aimed to develop innovative energy storage technologies for affordable electric vehicles.
Prior to ARPA-E, Ping Liu held the position of Manager, Energy Technology at HRL Laboratories from May 2003 to July 2012. Ping also worked as a Senior Scientist at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory from April 1997 to May 2003.
Overall, Ping Liu has a strong background in energy research and has held key positions in academia, government, and the private sector.
Ping Liu earned a B.S. degree in Chemistry from Fudan University in the years 1985 to 1989. They then pursued a M.S. degree in Physical Chemistry at the same university from 1989 to 1992. Subsequently, Ping Liu obtained a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Fudan University in the years 1992 to 1995.
