Lien Michiels

Lien Michiels is a Senior Researcher at imec-SMIT, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, since May 2024, with extensive experience in data science and machine learning. Past roles include Research Intern at MEDIALAAN, where participation in a major study on advertisement likeability in Belgium took place, and Data Scientist positions at Prezly and Gakushu, focusing on natural language processing and machine learning projects. Lien also served as a Junior Data Scientist at Sentiance and a Machine Learning Engineer at Froomle, contributing to the development of a scalable recommendation platform. A PhD candidate at the University of Antwerp from 2019 to 2024, Lien received a Baekeland grant for research in recommendation algorithms. Education includes a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Science and two Master's Degrees in Mathematical Engineering from KU Leuven, along with advanced training in machine learning and data mining during international programs. Currently, Lien is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Antwerp.
