Bin Yu

Bin Yu is a Chancellor's Distinguished Professor at UC Berkeley, holding the Class of 1936 Second Chair in Statistics, EECS, and CCB since 1993. The focus of Bin Yu's work involves leveraging computational advancements to address critical scientific challenges through the integration of statistical machine learning and expertise in neuroscience, genomics, and precision medicine. This role includes the development of theories related to random forests and deep learning to provide insights that guide practical applications. Prior experience includes a position as a Member of Technical Staff at Luent Bell Labs and a Visiting Assistant Professor at Yale University, along with an Assistant Professor role at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. Bin Yu earned a doctoral degree at the University of California, Berkeley, from 1985 to 1990.
