David Bogy

Director, Computer Mechanics Laboratory, Department of Mechanical Engineering

David Bogy is the William S. Floyd, Jr. Distinguished Professor of the Graduate School at the University of California, Berkeley, where they conduct research in solid and fluid mechanics, tribology, and dynamics, particularly as applied to technology in computer magnetic recording disk drives. With over 360 journal publications to their name, David's recent work includes wave mechanics for heat flux analyses in nano-scale systems and various studies related to the durability and mechanical properties of thin film overcoats. David founded and directs the Computer Mechanics Laboratory, which focuses on research in computer storage devices and receives funding from both industry and governmental sources. They have received numerous accolades, including the ASME Tribology Division Mayo D. Hersey Award and the IEEE 2010 Reynolds B. Johnson Data Storage Device Technology Award. David holds degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Geology from Rice University and a PhD in Applied Mathematics from Brown University.
