Jeff Benca

Jeff Benca, Ph.D., is a National Geographic Explorer with extensive experience in research, public speaking, and organizational leadership. At National Geographic since 2011, Jeff has co-led significant cross-functional research expeditions and has engaged in public relations by representing the organization at international conferences. Currently a Research Associate at the University of California, Berkeley, Jeff leads multiple collaborative projects and prepares scientific manuscripts for publication. Previous roles include serving as a Scientific Researcher, where microscopy studies were conducted, and as a Research Scientist at UC Berkeley, where innovative biology experiments led to notable publications and presentations. Jeff's background also includes experience as a Horticulturist at Amazon, managing plant databases and fostering collaborations within the botanical community. Jeff holds a Ph.D. in Biology from UC Berkeley and a Bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of Washington.
