Leonard Katz has extensive experience in the fields of industrial microbiology and biotechnology, currently serving as Past-President of the Society for Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology since August 2013, and as Director of Research & Industry Relations at SynBERC- UC Berkeley since 2007. Katz has held the position of Executive Director at UC Berkeley since 2007 and previously served as President-Elect of the Society of Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology in August 2012. Prior experience includes a tenure as VP of Biological Sciences at Kosan Biosciences from 1999 to 2006 and as Project Leader & Research Fellow at Abbott Laboratories from 1979 to 1998. Katz holds a PhD in Molecular Biology from UC Santa Barbara and a BSc in Microbiology from McGill University.
