Chris Tilly

Professor

Chris Tilly is a Professor of Urban Planning and Sociology at UCLA since August 2008 and serves as the Director of the Institute for Research on Labor and Employment. Tilly has been connected with Grassroots International as a board member and advisor since 1991 and held the position of Marie Jahoda Visiting Fellow at the Digital Futures at Work Research Centre from February 2021 to December 2023, focusing on research regarding the impact of technology on store-based retail jobs. Prior to UCLA, Tilly was a Professor of Economics and later a Professor of Regional Economic and Social Development at the University of Massachusetts Lowell from September 1988 to June 2008. Tilly earned a Ph.D. in Economics and Urban Studies and Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and holds two Bachelor of Arts degrees in Biochemistry from Harvard University.
