Gene Block is a distinguished academic leader with extensive experience in higher education. Since August 2007, Gene Block has served as a Professor and Chancellor at the University of California, Los Angeles. Prior to this role, Gene Block held multiple positions at the University of Virginia from 1991 to 2007, including Vice President and Provost, Founding Director of the National Science Foundation Science and Technology Center in Biological Timing, Vice President for Research and Public Service, and Vice Provost for Research. Gene Block's academic career at the University of Virginia began in 1978 as an Assistant Professor of Biology, later advancing to Associate Professor of Biology. Gene Block earned a PhD and MS in Psychology from the University of Oregon, along with an AB in Psychology from Stanford University, and has foundational studies from Foothill College.
