Steve Lurie currently serves as the Associate Vice Chancellor at UCLA, overseeing the Office of Campus and Community Safety, which includes the UCLA Police Department, Fire Department, and Office of Emergency Management, since February 2025. Lurie has been an Adjunct Professor at the University of Southern California since April 2019, instructing in the Master in Criminal Justice program. Prior to his current roles, Lurie spent nearly 28 years with the Los Angeles Police Department, achieving the rank of Police Commander and serving as the Assistant Commanding Officer of the West Bureau. Lurie has also held adjunct professor positions at Pepperdine University and Loyola Law School, where courses focused on police practices and urban policing issues. Lurie holds a BA in Anthropology from UCLA and a JD from Loyola Law School, as well as leadership training from the FBI National Academy and Harvard Kennedy School.
