Steve North is responsible for UKTV's full portfolio of channel brands, managing the editorial direction and programming for each. He also manages the combined BBC Studios and UKTV global compliance team, ensuring it is a centre of excellence for complying content on a range of BBC Studios and UKTV branded services internationally and in the UK.
Prior to becoming Chief Programming Officer, Steve was Genre General Manager for UKTV's Comedy & Entertainment channels (Dave, W, Gold and Yesterday).
Steve started his career at UKTV in 2001 as a scheduler, before leading the highly successful rebrand of UKTV G2 to Dave, transforming it from an under-performing entertainment channel into one of the top non-PSB channels in Britain. Under Steve's astute leadership, the channel has invested in a raft of brand-defining UKTV Originals including, BAFTA winning and Emmy-nominated Taskmaster; Hypothetical; and the return of multiple award-winning Red Dwarf.
In 2016, Steve led the evolution of pay entertainment channel Watch to W, with a new brand position and target audience. An exciting fresh slate of original content accompanied the rebrand and recent acclaimed shows include Emma Willis: Delivering Babies, Flack and Inside the Ambulance. Steve has also overseen the growth of original content on Gold, with stand-out hits such as Billy Connolly Does, Dad's Army: The Lost Episodes and Murder They Hope.
Prior to UKTV, Steve was a Media Planner for the BBC and worked in Presentation at Viacom.
