Jack Ryan

Senior Engineer

Jack Ryan has had a diverse range of work experience in the field of automation and engineering. Jack started their career in 1995 as an Associate Design Engineer at the Colorado River Authority, where they worked on integrating systems and installing remote terminal units and SCADA communications.

In 1998, they joined Techno-Mation as an Integration Engineer, designing control systems for plant controls. Jack also worked on retrofitting PLCs and configuring Allen Bradley SLC505s and Wonderware OITs for control systems at DPT Labs.

From 2000 to 2002, Jack worked at Rabalais I&E Constructors as an Integration Engineer, where they designed plant control systems and modified PLCs and HMIs for customers, including Pioneer Flour.

From 2002 to 2016, Jack had two roles at LCRA, including as a Senior Engineer and Supervisor of Energy Management Systems and Advanced Software Applications. Jack was responsible for administering a corporate-wide dashboard and data historian, as well as managing the Subwan network and ensuring NERC compliance. Jack also served as a Cyber Security Coordinator for the Subwan.

In 2016, Jack joined ERCOT as a Senior Identity Access Management Analyst, where they developed a tool using SQL Server and Access to verify authorization records efficiently.

Currently, Jack is working at Ulteig as a Substation Design Engineer, specializing in Substation System Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA). Jack'sresponsibilities include designing Substation SCADA systems, working with protection relays, RTUs, and Renewable Energy Controls.

Throughout their career, Jack has demonstrated expertise in automation support, system integration, PLC programming, control systems design, and network administration.

Jack Ryan has a diverse education history. Jack began their academic journey by attending the National Education Center from 1988 to 1990, where they earned an Associates of Applied Science degree in Computer Electronics. Following this, they enrolled at Austin Community College from 1991 to 1993, obtaining an Associate's degree with a focus on Electrical Engineering, Communications, and Control.

Jack continued their studies at The University of Texas at Austin from 1993 to 1995, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. During this time, they specialized in the field of study of Electrical Engineering.

In addition to their formal education, Jack also obtained several certifications. Jack acquired the CompTIA A+ certification from CompTIA in December 2020. Furthermore, they hold two Cisco Certified Network Associate Routing and Switching (CCNA) certifications; one from Cisco obtained in January 2020, and another from Cisco obtained in December 2022.

Beyond their technical expertise, Jack has demonstrated a diverse range of interests. Jack is a Master Scuba Diver Trainer, certified by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors, which they achieved in March 2007. Furthermore, they obtained a Professional Engineer license from the Texas Board of Professional Engineers in December 2003.
