John Ullmann has a diverse work experience spanning over several companies and roles. John started their career as a Project Manager at Smith Plumbing, Inc, where they were responsible for ordering materials, attending construction meetings, and managing project schedules. John then worked as a Natural Resources Engineer at the Department of Environment and Natural Resources for a brief period before joining the Office of State Engineer as a Project Engineer. In this role, John managed construction projects and provided technical assistance to Physical Plant Directors. John then moved on to the City of Pierre as a Staff Engineer, where they oversaw advertising, bidding, and inspection processes for various construction projects. After that, they joined the State of South Dakota as a Project Engineer, where they managed a wide range of projects in areas such as healthcare, education, and state parks. Their responsibilities included design-build and traditional design-bid-build delivery methods. Most recently, John worked at the South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks as an Engineering Supervisor, overseeing a team of engineers and managing projects for the Parks and Wildlife Divisions. John successfully advocated for the addition of a new engineer position to develop an asset management system. Currently, they are working as a Senior Project Manager at Ulteig.
John Ullmann completed their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Mechanical Engineering from South Dakota Mines, where they studied from 1999 to 2005. Prior to that, in 1998, they briefly attended Purdue University for engineering studies. In terms of certifications, John obtained their Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute in June 2023. Additionally, they received a Professional Engineer accreditation from the State of South Dakota in May 2016. In 2013, John earned certifications in Erosion & Sediment Control from SD DOT and Concrete Field Testing Tech - Grade 1 from ACI.
