Director of Spacecraft Hardware at Umbra

Michael Bik has worked for several companies in a variety of roles. In 2018, they were the Director of Spacecraft Hardware, Senior Spacecraft Systems Engineer, and Spacecraft Mechanisms Engineer at Umbra. In 2017, they were the CAPSTONE Team Leader at Apeel Sciences and a Mechanical Engineering Design Intern at Akela Inc., where they served as the primary mechanical designer and machinist for assigned projects and designed and 3D modeled a 6-piece jig for producing through wall imaging radar in non-planar chassis. In 2016, they were an Assistant Energy Consultant at Smart Whale Control, where they created and contracted energy solutions for general and particular industry customers. In 2015, they were a Business Development Intern at Smart Whale Control. Finally, in 2014, they were a Mechanic at Tomato Automotive, where they performed all general automobile maintenance, engine repairs, and collision statements and repairs.

Michael Bik attended the University of Southern California from 2022 to 2025, where they earned a Master of Science in Astronautical Engineering. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from UC Santa Barbara between 2014 and 2018.
