James Pierson is an experienced biological oceanographer with a focus on zooplankton ecology and the impacts of climate change on marine planktonic food webs. Since July 2006, James has served as an Associate Professor and previously as an Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, where research emphasizes the ecology of zooplankton. Prior to this, James held various positions including Assistant Research Professor and Assistant Research Scientist, specializing in zooplankton ecology in coastal and estuarine environments. Earlier experience includes work as a Marine Research Specialist at the University of Rhode Island and as a Field Research Coordinator at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. James earned a PhD and MS in Oceanography from the University of Washington and a BS in Biology with a focus on Marine and Freshwater from the University of New Hampshire.
