Thomas Miller is an accomplished academic and board member with a notable career in marine biology and environmental science. Currently serving as a member of the Ocean Studies Board at the National Academy of Sciences since January 2019, Thomas has also contributed as a trustee at the Chesapeake Bay Trust since March 2014. As a professor at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science since July 2006, Thomas previously held the position of director at the UMCES Chesapeake Biological Laboratory from April 2011 to June 2023, alongside roles as associate and assistant professor at the same institution from September 1994 to June 2006. Thomas's academic foundation includes a postdoctoral fellowship in marine biology and biological oceanography at McGill University and advanced degrees in zoology, ecology, and human and environmental biology from North Carolina State University and the University of York.
