Bernd Hackmann

Bernd Hackmann serves as Team Lead and Programme Officer at UN Climate Change, focusing on enhancing the implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), long-term low-emission development strategies (LT-LEDS), and transparency mechanisms under the Paris Agreement in developing countries. With a background that includes leading intergovernmental negotiations for the Paris Agreement and coordinating expert review teams for national greenhouse gas inventories, Bernd has a robust history in climate policy and capacity building. Prior roles at UN Climate Change and as an Assistant Lecturer at Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg complemented Bernd's extensive research experience, including work with the European Commission on emissions from international maritime transport. Bernd holds a Ph.D. in Political Sciences, specializing in climate change and social learning, as well as a Master's degree in Environmental Economics.
