Joy Backory

UNAIDS COUNTRY DIRECTOR

Joy Backory is the UNAIDS Country Director, currently leading and managing the United Nations Joint Programme on HIV/AIDS in Burkina Faso. With a MD in Medicine and a diploma in Epidemiology from Lille University, France, Joy has extensive experience in global health, specializing in governance, policy dialogue, and strategic partnerships. Previously, Joy served in various roles at UNAIDS, including Regional Programme Manager and Regional Community Mobilization and Networking Adviser, where they built collaborations with governments and civil society. Joy's commitment to HIV/AIDS advocacy is evidenced by their efforts in founding Kenya's National Day Care Centre for the Immuno-suppressed and promoting universal access to antiretroviral treatments.
