John Young

John A. Young serves as the Head of the Protection Learning Unit at UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, where they lead the development of innovative learning tools focused on human rights and refugee protection. Their career spans over two decades, marked by a commitment to advancing the protection of refugees and displaced individuals in various roles, including Senior Protection Officer in Serbia and Turkey, and Senior National Camp Coordinator in Iraq. In early 2022, John played a pivotal role in UNHCR's response to the Ukraine crisis, establishing an office in Slovakia. They hold a law degree from the University of Michigan Law School and are fluent in several languages, including Russian and Slovak.
